Barry Durrant has been a builder for nearly four decades

A lifelong builder has had his "livelihood" snatched away by a "scumbag" thief.

Barry Durrant, a building for nearly four decades, woke up yesterday to find his power tools had been taken from his work van.

His daughter Bethany said the hardworking dad, from Birkdale, was devastated by the incident.

After posting about the theft it in a local crime watch group on Facebook, Bethany was inundated with comments.

One woman called the thief a "scumbag", while another said the theft had been carried out by "the lowest of the low".

Bethany told the ECHO "People can't have anything nowadays. My dad has been a builder his entire life, this has ruined his whole day and he is worried it's going to happen to other people."

Police confirmed a report of power tools being stolen from a van parked on Guildford Road at around 1am on Wednesday.

The thief took tools including four power drills and one still saw.

Enquiries are being carried out and police have asked anyone with any information to come forward.
