Thieves got inside the Ford Transit parked in Kingfisher Drive, Whiddon Valley, sometime between 4pm on Saturday 2 December and 9am on Sunday 3 December.

They took a variety of power and hand tools including chisels, drills, hammers, screwdrivers, a powered saw set and router.

Police are asking for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time of the offence to contact them.

They would also like to hear from anyone who has been offered the items for sale or knows of anybody who has suddenly acquired a large number of tools.

BBC Spotlight reported that hours after Kevin Carlye switched on his charity display at home his van was broken into.

Kevin told BBC Spotlight: “All my tools, carpentry tools, it’s cordless, all power tools and handheld tools, the value is a lot.

“It is also my livelihood to support my family.”
