A number of power tools and two Bosch drills were taken from the van which was parked at Anytime Fitness near to Sainsbury's in Ventura Park, Tamworth on Monday night.

Thieves stole £1,000-worth of tools from a works van as the tradesman worked out in the gym.

Malcolm Bembridge’s MB Roofing & Property Maintenance van was targeted outside Anytime Fitness in Bitterscote Drive, next to Sainsbury’s in Tamworth, at 6pm on Monday, September 16.

A number of power tools and two Bosch drills were taken.

Malcolm, aged 52 and from Glascote, Tamworth, said: “I am deflated, I just don’t know what to say. These people just don’t realise the impact it has. I have to earn a living, I can’t let my customers down, I still have to work.

“Nothing like this has happened to me before. I went to the gym at 6pm and it was after 7 when I realised. Someone kept trying to ring me so I said ‘who is it?’ and then said ‘are you anything to do with MB Roofing’. The penny dropped when they said they had found my bag which was in my van.

“They had all my Makita power tools and Bosch drill. Luckily my work bag was found by a lady at Argos. I don’t know how they got in, they must have had a special key. It was locked. Apparently they tried to get into someone else’s van in Belgrave.”

Malcolm has been left deflated.
